Three Penny Needles
shakespeare's peddler
$27.00
Inspired by the colorful little cards that needles once came in, this piece is stitched on 40-count linen to fit perfectly in a standard 5-by-7 frame. It’s a tribute to the humble penny—a coin that’s jingled in our pockets and purses, bought candy and cross-stitch supplies, and made wishes in fountains. With a fondness for Abraham Lincoln, whose profile graces the penny, I’ve included nods to him: a train, an axe, the log cabin of his birth, the word “Honest” and a top hat, a Lincoln Star quilt block, a basket of pennies, plus Illinois’ state tree (white oak), bird (cardinal), and flower (violet). And of course, a blackberry pie—his favorite dessert!
Stitched with DMC, Gentle Arts, and Weeks Dye Works floss, the design measures 89 x 125 stitches, finishing at 4.45" x 6.25".
